Political Cartoons: Are Obama supporters too thin skinned?

Obama supporters are up in arms over the hard-hitting cartoon which has appeared in the New Yorker. Welcome to the cut and thrust of American politics. No quarter is given or taken. Cartoonists have savaged George W Bush and Condoleezza Rice. They just roll with the punches. Obama has benefited from a high degree of favourable media coverage so far from the Liberal media. In contrast John McCain, Hillary Clinton, George Bush, Condoleezza Rice and John Edwards have been subjected to very harsh treatment by elements in the media. I don't recall any of them crawling into a glass case. Me thinks Obama supporters doth protest too much. The first two cartoons are anti Obama cartoons. The remaining four are anti GOP cartoons. Liberals must realise what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Democrats are quite good at dishing it out. What are they complaining about?

Hillary Clinton: John McCain brings a life time of experience, Obama brings a speech from 2002

In this video both Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Joe Biden launch devastating attacks on Obama's lack of experience. John Edwards states that (Obama's) rhetoric is not enough. Hillary Clinton states that John McCain brings a life time of experience and crosses the Commander in Chief threshold. She stated that Obama brings a speech from 2002. In essence neither Edwards, Clinton or Biden believes that Obama has the experience necessary to assume the position of Commander in Chief.

Video Script:

HILLARY CLINTON: In this election, we need a nominee who can pass the Commander-In-Chief test. Someone ready on day one, to defend our country and keep our families safe. And we need a President who passes that test.

JOHN EDWARDS: Rhetoric is not enough. High falutin language is not enough.

HILLARY CLINTON: ...No time for speeches and on the job training. Senator McCain will bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, I will bring a lifetime of experience, and Senator Obama will bring a speech that he gave in 2002.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: You were asked "Is he ready?" You said "I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The Presidency is not something that lends itself to on the job training."

JOE BIDEN: I think that I stand by the statement.

BILL CLINTON: When's the last time we elected a President, based on one year of service in the Senate before he started running? He will have been a Senator longer by the time he is inaugurated, but essentially once you start running for President full time, you don't have time to do much else.

HILLARY CLINTON: I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the Commander-In-Chief threshold. And, I believe that I have done that, certainly Senator McCain has done that, and you will have to ask Senator Obama with respect to his candidacy.

Hillary Clinton lacks leadership qualities

Much has been made of Hillary Clinton's leadership qualities. In reality such qualities are largely lacking.

  • Unfortunately for the Democratic party she is not a conviction politician.
  • Each statement is carefully crafted to soothe the sensibilities of the targeted audience.
  • Hillary is all things to all men.
  • There is no evidence from her statements that she could take hard decisions .
  • The 1993 Hillarycare fiasco provides a graphical illustration of her political ineptitude. It was even disowned by fellow Democrats.
  • Hillary Clinton wants to run the largest enterprise in the world. She hasn’t run a corner store. She hasn’t run a state. She hasn’t run a city,” “She has never run anything. And the idea that she could learn to be President as an internship just doesn’t make any sense-Mitt Romney.
  • Clinton leads on evading questions.
  • Clinton leads on planting questions.
  • She is confused on illegal immigration. Her latest u-turn on the issue of driving licenses for illegal immigrants proves conclusively that all her pronouncements are tailored to suit the prevailing mood. She cannot take a firm stand on anything.
  • She is strongly pro abortion. Yet she tries to reach out to anti abortion voters with anodyne statements. What hypocrisy.
  • She is the master of obfuscation in relation to taxation policies. Hillary will simultaneously balance the budget, introduce tax cuts and greatly extend social programmes and health entitlements. This is an attempt to square the circle. Her taxation policies will cripple the middle class.
  • Hillary is too thin skinned. She could not take criticism from Obama and Edwards.
  • Sending Bill out to bat for her indicates she lacks the toughness required to face down hard men like Putin.

Now contrast Hillary with Mike Huckabee who has clear cut policies on taxation (The Fair Tax) abortion and Iraq. It is a no contest.

The Daily Kos and the Democratic Party

The Daily Kos is an American Liberal Blog which features activists who seek to influence and strengthen the Democratic Party. It wishes to push the Democratic party further and further to the Left. It launches withering attacks on the GOP.

The Daily Kos carries an article headed "A Simple Way To End The War On Terror". It is written by Yacka Jah Yacka. This is a brief excerpt ".....All in all, converting to Islam would be a small price to pay for an end to the killing and maiming of our sons and daughters, not to mention the billions of dollars we could put to better use than fighting this perpetual war.
So let’s do away with our religious pretences, adopt Islam as our new faith, add a few extra holidays to our calendar, and get down to the real business at hand: pumping oil....."

This is an indication of how far The Kos has drifted from the mainstream. The second annual gathering of the Daily Kos political blog at Chicago, was attended by five top Democratic presidential candidates including front-runner Sen. Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama. These politicians lacked the metal to stand up to left wing extremists.

US-Infighting in the Democrats

As the campaign for the Democratic party nomination has gained momentum so has the level of attacks from Barack Obama and John Edwards on Hillary Clinton. Obama has described Hillary as "Bush-Cheney lite" on foreign affairs.

Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, criticised Clinton for taking campaign donations from special-interest lobbyists. Hillary has pursued a skilful strategy of nuancing her policies in accordance with the wishes of the electorate as expressed in public opinion polls. She is attempting to pursue a centrist position while genuflecting to the left. She is aware that that a leftist policy platform will cost her the Presidency. The problem for Hillary is that she is not a centrist by conviction. Obama has run into serious problems when he attempted to put flesh on his policies.

Problems will arise for Hillary in the course of the presidential election campaign if she is the Democratic Party candidate. It will be encumbent upon her to cease flip flopping and to take a definite position on such issues as health care, foreign policy, taxation ,illegal immigration et al. She has consistently changed her position on Iraq.

There are straws in the wind as to her real intentions. She is in reality a covert leftist who camouflages her real intentions with a centrist mask.

In 1993, President Clinton appointed his wife to head and be the chairperson of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform. The task Force recommended a plan that would mandate employers to provide health coverage to their employees . The plan was quickly labelled "Hillarycare" by its opponents. The plan was ridiculed in the House and Senate though both were controlled by the Democrats. The proposal was abandoned in September of 1994. The Clinton health care plan was a major campaign issue of the 1994 midterm elections. It cost the Democrats control of both houses. Some of the documentation that relates to Hillerycare will not be released until after the 2008 Presidential Election -luckily for Hillary.
"Hillarycare" will surface in 2008 as a major election campaign issue.
Senator Clinton also voted against the tax cuts introduced by President Bush. Republicans can legitimately claim that she favours high taxation.
John Edwards is upfront about his left wing platform. Obama continues to score own goals, whilst Hillery relies on sound bytes to obscure her left wing policies.
The fault lines in the Democratic Party have begun to open as increasingly Edwards and Obama snipe at Hillary.
