Renowned Pianist Jacqueline Chew former atheist and convert to Catholicism-an inspiring story

This month's edition of the Messenger of St. Anthony has a three page article on the conversion of Jacqueline Chew to Catholicism. It is well worth reading. Jacqueline Chew was born in Oakland, California. She is a distinguished pianist whose music is available at CD Baby and on Amazon. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from State University of New York-Binghamton. She performed, toured and recorded with the Women's Philharmonic (located in San Francisco) from 1990-2004. She has performed at concerts and music festivals both in the US and overseas. She currently teaches piano at at the University of California-Berkeley, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and San Francisco Community Music Center. She was raised in the Presbyterian faith.

At college she lost her faith and became an atheist. However God works in mysterious ways. As an atheist she heard for the first time the music of Olivier Messiaen a devout Catholic. The music was from Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jesus (Twenty Contemplations of the Infant Jesus). This led her to the Story of a Soul, The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux. The music of Vingt Regards led her to God and ultimately to the Roman Catholic Church. She eventually met Olivier Messiaen and his spiritual influence was pivotal in her decision to convert. She was also strongly influenced by the writings of the American Trappist monk Thomas Merton. She has become an oblate of New Camaldoli Hermitage in the Santa Lucia Mountains of Big Sur, California. Being an Oblate allows her to remain associated with the Camaldolese Benedictine community but at the same time to live and work in the world as a professional musician teaching and performing concerts. This blog post barely scratches the surface of the article.

Sister Lucia of Fatima-Read this wonderful article on her life

Sister Lucia of Fatima died on 13 February 2005, on the same day of the 1917 Fatima apparitions, which occurred for six months always on the same day; and on the same day of the May 1981 attempt to assassinate John Paul II.

by Renzo Allegri

NUMBER 13 was no ordinary number in the life of Sister Lucia dos Santos, one of the most enigmatic women in the 20th century. Her name first made the headlines in 1917 when, at the age of 10, she was one of the three shepherds to receive visions of the Blessed Virgin. From that moment she has become one of the Church's most mysterious figures, and a focus of world-wide interest right up to her death on 13 February 2005, aged 97. This is the same day of month in which she first saw Our Lady and received her messages. These apparitions continued for six months, from May to October. But 13 May is also the day on which Ali Agca attempted to assassinate Pope John Paul II in Saint Peters' Square in 1981... Continue reading at Messenger of Saint Anthony

Our Lady's Message to Mirjana

"Dear children; I am coming to you as a mother and I desire that in me, as in a mother, you may find your abode, consolation and rest. Therefore, my children, apostles of my love, pray. Pray with humble devotion, obedience and complete trust in the Heavenly Father. Trust as I have trusted when it was said to me that I will bring the blessing of the promise. May out of your hearts, from your lips, always come forth "May your will be done!" Therefore, trust and pray so that I can intercede for you before the Lord, for him to give you the Heavenly Blessing and fill you with the Holy Spirit. Then he will be able to help all those who do not know the Lord -- you, apostles of my love, will help them to call him "Father" with complete trust. Pray for your shepherds and place your trust in their blessed hands. Thank you. "
