Colin Powell endorsement of Obama no surprise-(A Cynical Decision based on Race??)

So Colin Powell has finally endorsed Barack Obama. Surprise Surprise. In September Colin Powell stated that the election of an African-American US president would be “electrifying” for the world. So he emphasized the African American aspect. Race is obviously an important issue for him even though he will deny it. He wishes to be part of history-as he sees it. Many white voters will see this as a further example of African -Americans closing ranks behind their man. Of course to suggest that race is a major consideration for Powell is to run the risk of being labelled racist. The unvarnished truth is that race was the major consideration. This could backfire badly on Obama. Many whites may decide in the privacy of the ballot box not to vote for an African- American president on the basis of closing ranks around their man.

It is safe to assume that a high proportion of the 98% of African Americans -who support Obama -will vote on the basis of the colour of his skin. Colin Powell can make all the lofty claims he likes about Obama but the reality is that he left the cat out of the bag in September.
In addition his endorsement has come late in the campaign. Looks like a cynical effort to secure a position in a putative Obama administration. Of course he agrees with Obama on issues such as abortion.

Powell criticized the tone of the McCain/Palin campaign and criticized Sarah Palin's readiness for office. This is risible. It is the ultimate in hypocrisy. Barack Obama has NO executive experience whilst Palin has executive experience as Governor of Alaska.
Apparently Powell is not at all concerned at the savage attacks on Sarah Palin.

Obama surrogate Wesley Clark attacks McCain: Democratic Campaign reaches a new low

Interestingly Barack Obama has usually been fulsome in his praise of John McCain's war record. Nevertheless the attack by Wesley Clark on John McCain certainly came about with the approval of Obama. Obviously Obama is endeavouring to be a little too cunning for his own good. He lacks the gravitas necessary to attack McCain's experience. So instead he uses a surrogate in the form of retired General Wesley Clark.

Clark said that McCain lacked the executive experience necessary to be President, calling him “untested and untried” on CBS Face the Nation. He also,sniped at McCain’s military service.
Barack Obama told a group of donors in Jacksonville, Fla Friday night last that Republicans would try to make voters afraid of him, and suggested they would use his race to scare up votes for John McCain. Here he is playing with fire. It is he who is introducing race into the campaign and not John McCain. Obama's approach is the most cunning and the most devious adopted by any Democratic Presidential candidate in the last thirty years.

He is using a multipronged approach. He is injecting race into the campaign to galvanise the African American vote. He then attempts to insulate himself from attack by insinuating that any criticism is motivated by racial considerations. Indeed many in the Clinton campaign believe that similar dirty political tactics by the Obama campaign cost Hillary the nomination. He is now using a surrogate to attack McCain's military record in an attempt to neutralise McCain's advantage in terms of experience. He avoids many of the issues like the plague. Speeches are usually full of empty rhetoric but devoid of substance.

So much for the change promised by Obama. It is a chimera.

Clintons hypocrisy on the race issue stinks

Hillary Clinton’s hypocrisy on the race issue stands condemned. In the course of her New Hampshire primary campaign she decided to launch an exocet in the form of the race card. She said that while Martin Luther King talked about equality, it took a president like Lyndon Baines Johnson to do the real work of getting civil rights passed. Essentially she was stating that Martin Luther King was all talk and no action just like Barack Obama. Responsibility for the ugly racial squabbles within the Democratic Party rests with Clinton and not with Obama.

Former Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro quit her links to the Hillary Clinton campaign yesterday after she attributed Barack Obama's success to the fact that he was black. Her remarks have created a political storm. Ferraro in introducing the race issue had merely taken her cue from Bill and Hillary Clinton. Of Ferraro's comment, Hillary Clinton said: ''I certainly do repudiate it and I regret deeply that it was said. Obviously she doesn't speak for the campaign, she doesn't speak for any of my positions, and she has resigned from being a member of my very large finance committee.'' Of course Hillary required her resignation. This is a meaningless gesture. Ferraro has done the dirty work for Hillary by keeping the race issue on the boil. Secretly Hillary is happy with Ferraro’s comments. They serve to widen the chasm between Caucasoids and African Americans.


Last night Hillary Clinton apologized to leaders of 200 black community newspapers for any offense caused by her husband's comments on January 26th comparing Barack Obama's victory in the South Carolina primary to Jesse Jackson's in 1984 and 1988. This was an ugly smear designed to couple Obama with Jackson who is detested by a large segment of the white community.
Bill Clinton’s comments -at the behest of Hillary- fanned the flames of racial division. There is evidence that this tactic has worked in states such as Ohio.


On March 13th almost seven weeks after the event Hillary decided to “apologise” for Bills comments. Her hypocrisy stinks to high heavens. Did Bill resign? Of course not. This “apology" is a meaningless gesture.

Whilst Democrats squabble on the race issues the GOP promotes African Americans such as Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice.
Hillary Clinton should withdraw from the campaign. She is a divisive influence. It is time for the US to elect John McCain.
