The vessel - the U-40 - was recently discovered by divers off the coast of Eyemouth in Berwickshire.
It is thought to have been among the first to have been lured by a decoy trawler and then torpedoed by a British submarine during the First World War.
It is the second such discovery in the waters off the Scottish Borders after a similar U-boat find in January 2008.
The U-40 was discovered by a team of divers from Eyemouth-based Marine Quest about 40 miles off the Berwickshire coast.
It was sunk on 23 June 1915 with the loss of 29 German sailors.....BBC

Connection Withdrawn:11/30/08
INDIA SUFFERED one of its deadliest terrorist attacks last night when gunmen ran amok in the wealthiest part of Mumbai, killing dozens of people, blowing up cars, petrol stations, hospitals and luxury hotels and taking a number of foreign nationals hostage.
About 300 people were believed killed and 327 wounded in Wednesday’s attacks with 10 shot dead at Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus, formerly known as Victoria terminus, one of the two big stations in downtown Mumbai. Another three people were killed in the Taj hotel lobby, where Deutsche Bank executives from Europe were believed to be sheltering.
At one hospital, St George’s in south Mumbai, 60 bodies and 200 injured people were brought in.(Irish Times)

The Telegraph snipes at Ireland and its economy as usual
The following is posted by grumpylarry in the Telegraph
“The Irish it would appear are not as well served by the EMU as they would have us believe. Or could it be that they don't understand money and finance quite as well as they think. In my last blog I highlighted the problems some of their east European labour was suffering due to the downturn in the Irish economy. It would appear that the many of the 'New Irish' now find themselves broke, unable to speak the language, depending on charity to eat, struggling to keep a roof over their head or homeless, and too ashamed to go home. They may well be joined by the native inhabitants of the emerald isle, and this time they wont have the wicked British to blame…”
It is accompanied by a picture from the late 1800s or early 1900s which gives an image of abject poverty. The picture has the caption ”YOU CAN'T BLAME US THIS TIME.” The gloating is based on ignorance.
The Telegraph has never got over the fact that we are an independent people since 1921/22. Of course there are serious problems in the Irish property market. I have documented them from time to time. Nevertheless there is not a scintilla of evidence to suggest that Anglo Irish Bank, AIB or Bank of Ireland face collapse. These banks are robust and quite profitable.
It is a bit rich to listen from lectures from the UK on Irish problems.
Has not grumpylarry heard about Northern Rock, the UK bank that got a £25bn bailout from the British government recently?
Has he forgotten the Lawson boom/bust?

Rush Limbaugh and John McCain-Limbaugh is not God
I do not agree with John McCain on everything but as a war hero he deserves better from the likes of Rush Limbaugh. What is Rush Limbaugh's war record? Has he put his life on the line for the US? The man is not God. Limbaugh is not always correct. In actual fact I have yet to meet the perfect conservative.
I know conservatives were angry when McCain opposed the Bush Tax cuts. And I can understand why. However they forget that he linked his opposition to the deficit. As far as I am aware true conservatives support a balanced budget. Borrowing is deferred taxation.
Bob Dole has taken Limbaugh to task for his attacks on McCain.
Dole got more votes than Rush Limbaugh will ever get. Much of what Dole states re McCain is fundamentally sound. He supports a balanced budget. He supports a strong national security. He will appoint conservative judges. These are all good conservative issues.
Much of the debate on GOP forums has degenerated into a discussion on right wing ideological purity. I agree that a candidate must have some fundamental beliefs to guide him/her. Incidentally there are varying shades of conservatism. A broadly conservative approach is the correct one.
However 95% of the electorate has little interest in ideological purity. Such voters are concerned with the problems of day to day living-inflation, mortgages, education, health care and employment.
Voters will elect the candidate who in their opinion addresses these issues best.
The British Conservative Party tore itself asunder on ideology and has lost the last three general elections. Opposition is a lonely place. You can rave and rant all you like but you must control the levers of power to achieve your goals. Even the British Conservative Party now realises this.
If Hillary is elected President the liklihood is that she will be re-elected in four years time. The same applies to Obama. The Clintons know how to keep a grip on power.
We will have the appalling vista- A Democratic President and a Democratic Congress.
Even Conservatives who have misgivings about McCain should realise that half a loaf is better than no bread. They have some prospect of fulfilling their dreams under a McCain presidency. They have no prospects under a Clinton or Obama presidency.
To all Republicans I say unite or linger in the political wilderness for decades.
In the words of Benjamin Franklin " We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately"
