2007:Waterford Constituency General Election Results-Martin Cullen Resignation

Tonight Martin Cullen TD (Waterford), Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism
announced his resignation as a Minister and as a TD on health grounds. Below I have included the 2007 General Election results for the Waterford Constituency. This is highly apposite as a by election must now be held in the Waterford Constituency to fill the seat vacated by Mr Cullen. As a Minister Mr Cullen worked tirelessly for the Waterford Constituency. It is sad to see Martin resign on health grounds. The official resignation will not take place until the Cabinet reshuffle takes place. I wish him well and hope he returns to good health soon. He is certainly a big loss to Waterford.

Statement from Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism:

Dear Taoiseach,
As you are aware, from our discussions in January, I have been suffering for some months now with a serious illness.
During this period I have carried out, as agreed with you, my ministerial duties in full and both your personal support and that of our colleagues in Government has been a great help.
I have always been a fighter and optimistic in both my personal and political life, however my consultant's advice is that my condition is deteriorating further and options for treatment and recovery are narrowing.
I am very proud to have represented the interests of the Waterford City and County and to have served in successive Fianna Fail led Governments across Finance (OPW); Environment, Heritage and Local Government; Transport, Social and Family Affairs and your appointment of me to Arts, Sport and Tourism.
As a result of my current medical condition and taking advice from my medical consultants it is with regret that I must now retire from public life.
In consequence of this, I wish to advise you, pursuant to Article 29(9) (2) of the Consitiution of my intention to resign from office as a member of the Government.
I request that this be effective by your recommending its acceptance by the President on a date of your choosing in the context of other matters relating to the Government which are under consideration by you.

Obama to give $11 Billion Extra from Taxpayers to fund abortion in new Healthcare Bill

President Obama and his pro-abortion allies in Congress plan to use the controversial reconciliation process as a last-ditch effort to ram through a health care reform bill that would mandate abortion coverage and government funding of abortion. Obama's healthcare plan directs $11 BILLION EXTRA from TAXPAYERS in new funding to groups like Planned Parenthood America's largest abortion chain that took in over $349,000,000 in tax funding last year while aborting 305,310 babies. Obama is endeavouring to secure the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade. He is also endeavouring to bailout the abortion industry with TAXPAYER dollars. This is a pay back for the huge financial support from the abortion industry for the Obama presidential election campaign. The reconciliation process is being used to bypass the need to get a two-thirds majority in the Senate to pass the bill - following the upset Senate election in Massachusetts which broke the 60-vote stronghold. Under this process, the House would be asked to pass the abortion-laden Senate health care bill (that does NOT include the widely supported Stupak language that bars government funding of abortion.)Then, both the House and Senate would vote for a companion reconciliation measure that would make changes in the first bill to gain the support of more Representatives and the White House.Only 51 votes would be needed to pass the additional reconciliation measure in the Senate.Obama has indicated his desire to sign the abortion-laden health care bill by Easter -- just a few weeks from now. The House of Representatives will vote on the bill first. If it passes there, it would then be signed by President Obama. Finally, it would go to reconciliation for changes to be made -- and where only 51 votes would be needed to pass it in the Senate.

Pelosi, Democrats Twisting Arms for Pro-Abortion Health Care "Suicide Mission

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats are now in the process of trying to twist enough arms in the House and Senate to railroad the pro-abortion health care bill through Congress. The vote-gathering process is derided by some Republicans as a mission of political suicide because it is so unpopular.
Democrats are bent on using the controversial reconciliation process to get the bill approved.

That's where they use a procedural trick normally reserved for important bills funding the federal government that prohibits a filibuster in the Senate -- where Democrats would otherwise not have the 60 votes needed to get the bill approved.
In an effort to gain traction in the messaging war on television and with Americans who oppose the bill by more than 20 points, they're tacking a new tack of calling the process getting a "simple majority."

“Health care reform has already passed both the House and the Senate with not only a majority in the Senate but a supermajority,” White House health care czar Nancy-Ann DeParle said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And we're not talking about changing any rules here. All the president’s talking about is: Do we need to address this problem, and does it make sense to have a simple, up-or-down vote."
And Pelosi herself has a new approach to gaining support for the bill -- inventing bipartisanship. Pelosi says she doesn't need Republican votes to be bipartisan. A huge crowd attended at the Seminary of St. Massimo in Verona Italy on Saturday, February 27th for the visit of Medjugorje Visionary Marija Pavlovic. Giant screens were set up outside. There was a program similar to that of Medjugorje. The church was already filled two hours in advance. There was prayer, Mass and Adoration until 7 pm and beyond. A dozen priests concelebrated Mass.
